I've not yet tried the pimple patches, but I've always wondered how well they work. I'm glad to know they helped you! I've always been prone to a "Bertha" cyst in the days leading up to my period. One would have thought that would not still be happening in my 50s, but unfortunately it does. At least at this point in my life, those cystic zits are smaller, less painful, and don't hang around for too long.
I didn't believe anything about pimple patches until I tried them. The decorative ones look funny, but I could see how the kids love them. We probably wore stickers on our faces when we were younger. I felt very silly with this big pimple on my chin at my age.
I've had acne since I was like 10 years old. For years I was constantly cleaning my face; that never helped. Later, through experimentation, I discovered it was certain drinks/foods that were the problem. (Also, shea butter. Now I reserve the shea butter for the soles of my feet).
As far as hormones, is it really testosterone, not cortisol?
Good health investigation, Moorea! I'm sure this was a difficult time in your life trying to manage it.
Great point about cortisol and you're right about the influence of stress on pimples. I think you know me well enough now that I don't rehash common knowledge health information and present it like it's something new. Wasn't it much more fun to learn about testosterone?
The visual of a senior citizen with a pimple is so mind blowing.
That's because there's only one diagnosis right now for women that uses testosterone as treatment - hypoactive sexual desire disorder. I also don't think that there are great definitions for appropriate testosterone ranges for women. Otherwise, it could be because testosterone doesn't have many functions postmenopause or we just don't have enough data to know. I find it curious that it spikes in the late sixties. It's doing that for a reason, we just don't know why. Maybe it's a boost that we need to get us through our final years??
Maybe so grandmas can carry their grandbabies on their backs?
I’ve heard a number of individuals who sounded as if they knew what they were talking about explain the importance of testosterone for female bodies. I’ve also read that it can cause weight gain (which makes me wonder if that weight was muscle or fat). Now that I know it can cause acne, I’m not so keen on it.
I suspect the reason is what you said at the beginning of your comment. :/
Voice changes would be from taking too much testosterone, wouldn’t you think? I don’t think anyone is advocating for women taking the amount that trans men take.

Thanks for this information, Shelby.

Yes, I like that you don’t rehash common knowledge health info and present it as if it’s news.
It is peculiar, though, how almost nobody talks about the problems when female bodies become too low in testosterone.

The voice changes stories from women using testosterone are heartbreaking.
