What an astute observation! Never booted but certainly did an ankle sprain, something I've never done before. Glad you are doing this work. You've given me so many ideas on how to address these issues from an ayurvedic perspective. Still learning my way around substack. It's alot! Thanks for starting the 365. 💜

Thanks for stopping by! I'm glad that I can be an inspiration for you. I feel very aligned with your work. So many moments of resonating with what you teach. And, you'll be happy to hear I've got my Chyawanprash in the cabinet. Looking forward to reading more of your work.

Ooohhh you spelled it! now can you say it? HAhahahaha

Truth be told I had to look up the spelling. I watch a lot of Bollywood movies (when I have 3 hours free) and listen to the music so I might be able to say it correctly quickly if I practice lol.

It's so great that you are dispelling the myth that the only signs of menopause are hot flashes, weight gain and mood changes.

Slipping rib syndrome?! I've not heard of that one, but I'd like to avoid it. There seems to be no end to the amount of challenges women face in perimenopause. Grateful for your article and how well you explain the concerns and offer solutions. Has anyone else felt like they are just more clumsy now? It's truly frustrating among all the other symptoms.

Hi Susan! I think you do yoga, right? Maybe if I had done yoga I wouldn't have developed it. It's painful when it pops out. Thanks for the kudos! I appreciate that you're a reader. If you were clumsy before, peri is going to ramp up the clumsiness. But, yeah, clumsy is a thing as our bodies adjust to the new way of hormones.

I was booted at 47. I stepped down off a fence at work (slowly! Supported!) but my proprioreception has *always* sucked, and I crumpled my ankle beneath me. RIDICULOUS

Jiminy Crickets, Shelly! Ouch. Yeah at 47 it doesn't take much to end up in a boot. Hope you're all healed up now. You've got to finish the story ... why were you on the fence? Too many decisions to make lol.

😂😂😂 it was a terrible decision.

I was on one of those 3 bar welded pipe ranch fences. Standing on the bottom bar to get elevation over the bushes and get a direct line of sight for my laser to measure distance from property boundary to test hole. Got my measurements, was holding on (granted one handed, had the laser in the other), stepped off, CRUNCH.

A year later I climbed one of those fences VERY CAREFULLY to get to some gated test holes, and I thought “If I do it again, my boss will kill me and then dig me up so she can fire me”😂

Other than it aches in the weather, it’s fine. Boss retired (we are actual friends) and I went on my own private. I’m still doing test holes at 51. It does kinda take a toll. Nobody really knows what I do, so I’m always feeling validated and a little bit amused when “outside people” are like yeah, that’s a physical job!

Dirty Jobs😂😂😂 my kids LOVED that show. This is deeeeefinitely a dirty job!

Oh, that makes sense why you were on fences. I'd say that's a physical job AND you have to be outdoors in all sorts of weather. You should write a Substack about what you do - this is fascinating and I bet you have some good stories! That Mike Rowe show where people had interesting jobs was a hit.

Your not wrong! Now that I think about it, many of my clients have been in boots lately for one reason or another!

Really appreciating your posts Shelby. Joint pain and back pain have definitely shown up for me in the perimenopause years and I was casually dismissed by a (younger, male) GP with 'no this is not a menopausal symptom'... thankfully conversations with other women confirmed that yes, it most definitely is!

Thanks for the kudos too! I hit post too quickly without completing my thoughts. I appreciate your support!

Unfortunately this is a very common experience which is why Dr Wright wants to name this collection of issues formally by calling it "The musculoskeletal syndrome of menopause." She feels once it has a name doctors can learn to identify that these are perimenopause and menopause issues.

I hope you found a doctor that was able to help you (or this one even though he dismissed it as a menopause transition thing). This has been one of the harder symptoms for me although I'm not getting the common stuff... only the unusual issues LOL.

Same here Shelby. I don't have any of the more common symptoms so far! And yes, I never went back to that GP and have a much more holistic (older, female) doctor these days 😊
